JAPAN AMBASSADOR TO KENYA VISIT TO MWEA IRRIGATION SCHEME

 

H.E Mr. Ryoichi Horie; Japan's ambassador to Kenya, visited Mwea Irrigation Scheme today. He is on an induction tour to Kenya visiting the Big 4 Agenda projects. He mentioned that the Government of Japan is committed to support Kenya in achieving the Big 4 Agenda especially on Food security and nutrition.

Mr. Gitonga Mugambi; the National Irrigation Authority(NIA) Director General/CEO hosted him, and took him through the different activities done in the Scheme, Thiba dam and Mwea Irrigation Agricultural Development (MIAD) Center.

“The expansion of Mwea Irrigation Scheme from 12,000 acres in 1992 to the current 26,000 acres is greatly attributed to the support from the Government of Japan through JICA and the great engineers of Nippon Koei,” said the Scheme Manager.

The Japan Government has over the years supported NIA in achieving its mandate and H.E Mr. Ryoichi Horie has assured Mr. Gitonga Mugambi of continued support.
